Arlene Phillips may have turned 81 on Oct. 31, but the longtime horsewoman is not sitting ready to
slow down. She has been a trainer on the Arizona circuit since the 1960's and boasts a number of
training titles at the old Prescott Downs.
Phillips doesn't have near the numbers she used to but can still make her presence felt. On the day
following her birthday, Phillips saddled Aburn Angel to win the nightcap, a 5 1/2-furlong claiming
sprint. Phillips is also the owner. Through last weekend she had sent out six runners at the meet, with
two of them winning. Over the past couple years she has had numerous starters at Zia Park,
Albuquerque, SunRay Park, and Ruidoso.
Phillips also has a ranch where she maintains about 50 head and three stallions.
